OUR HISTORY:
First Gas Powered Excavator in Butler
The Tack family immigrated from Germany to the United States in the mid-1800's. Throughout the years they have done much of the excavating work, infrastucture: water line sanitary sewer line, and storm sewer installation in the Butler, PA and surrounding areas. Demolition was within their scope of work; thus the Tack's have either dug up Butler, buried pipe or torn down well-known structures all over the area.
Philip Tack, founder of Tack Construction

Philip Tack began the construction business in Butler, Pennsylvania in 1883. Philip's son, John began his own company and his sons followed likewise in the 1930's. They primarily did general excavating and railroad lines. Following World Was II, John's sons expanded the family business by starting a builder's supply company, while Homer left his father's company and started his own excavating business.

Homer Tack, Sr., son of John, and his sons continued in the family business from the 1950's thru 1970's. Homer's sons later left their father's company and went their own directions; although, they continued in the excavating business. David trenched for cable for the local phone company while Newton worked pipeline and demolition projects with his sons, Daniel and Donald.

During the years that Newton worked with his father and on his own, he taught many, many men to operate heavy equipment on site during projects. In 1988, he had the vision to begin a school to teach equipment operation. However, due to other business commitments, this project went in abeyance.

As the years passed, Newton continued in the construction business until December 2002. At this time, he decided to explore his dream of beginning a school to develop heavy equipment operators. Thus, Tack Operator Training, LLC was born. The school's first student began to "dig dirt" in May 2003.
